Seminare de DPNC ================ Mercredi, 7. fev. 1996 17.00 - Auditoire Stuckelberg Universite de Geneve Departement de physique nucleaire et corpusculaire 24, quai Ernest-Ansermet 1211 Geneva 4 Tel. 022 702 6273 Fax 022 781 2192 ****************************************************************************** Sujet: Tests of Lepton-flavor Conservation Par: Dr. A. van der Schaaf, Zurich University Resume: Lepton-flavor Conservation (LFC) is one of the corner stones of the Standard Model, but may be violated in almost any extension of it. By studying transitions between leptons from different generations, one ultimately hopes to learn about the origin of the generation structure itself. The status of laboratory tests of LFC will be reviewed, with emphasis on LFC-violating ("forbidden") $\mu$ decays. Ongoing searches with the two SINDRUM spectrometers at PSI will raise the present sensitivity by two to four orders of magnitude.
