Seminare de DPNC ================ Mercredi, 12. mars 1997 17.00 - Auditoire Stuckelberg Universite de Geneve Departement de physique nucleaire et corpusculaire 24, quai Ernest-Ansermet 1211 Geneva 4 Tel. 022 702 6273 Fax. 022 781 2192 ****************************************************************************** Sujet: nu_mu->nu_tau oscillation search at accelerators Par: Dr. Daniela Macina, Universite de Geneve Resume: Thirty years after the discovery of the neutrinos, the investigation of their masses and mixings remains one of the great challenges in experimental particle physics. A lot of experiments have been carried out aimed at the determination of the neutrino mass directly or, indirectly, through observation of oscillation of one type of neutrino into another. Massive neutrinos would have enormous implication for particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. In particular nu_tau with masses of ~10 eV are realistic candidates for Hot Dark Matter. The current situation on the neutrino oscillation search will be briefly reviewed. A special emphasis will be placed on the nu_mu->nu_tau oscillation search at accelerators, in particular on the results from the CHARMII Collaboration and on the preliminary results from the CHORUS Collaboration. Plans on future neutrino oscillation search will be mentioned at the end of the talk.
