Minutes of the RICH-Tracker Testbeam Meeting at CERN, June 13th 2002.
Concerning the september ion testbeam the following points were
discussed this morning which are not explicitly written
in the AMS internal note by M.Buenerd et al.
Schedule
The present situation concerning the planning is as follows. Beginning of
september (monday 9) dedicated space near the zone will be available
for integration and testing of the apparatus.
The official starting date so far is on sunday 29 (this means monday).
We can hopefully have access to the zone from friday, september 27.
The date critically depends on the decision of the NA49 experiment and on when
ALICE people can remove their equipment (two huge magnets).
The beam (H8/T4 @ SPS, NA) will have two energies, four days of 20 AGeV
and 7 days of 158 AGeV. The final schedule is not yet known.
Beam & Zone
There are approximately 2.30m space between the wall and NA45.
The upstream location could not accomodate both the RICH and tracker
apparatus. In this configuration a 50cm-1m long Tracker telescope (6 ladders,
not necessarily perpendicular to the beam) should settle downstream (of
NA45). Most likely the RICH will be installed downstream, and the
tracker could then be placed in front of it.
The counting room is at about 40m cable-distance from the zone.
The beam size will be 4cm by 4cm at 1.26m height.
Tracker <-> RICH
The trigger signal will be provided by scintillators (whose dE/dx measurement
can be directly used for trigger purpose as well) of the RICH system.
A possible joint DAQ between Tracker and RICH could be as follows.
At a trigger signal the event number is incremented if the two detectors are
not busy and can then be distributed to the two, otherwise independent,
DAQ systems. More discussions between Geneva (Eduardo, Divic, ...) and
Grenoble (George, ...) will follow next week.
