AMS Geneva Memo
Procedure for hybrids pair electrical check before integration on
a ladder
Giovanni Ambrosi, 29 May 1997
Before integration of a pair of hybrids on a ladder the following procedure has to be
followed in order to be sure that the hybrid is electrically working (here NO
instruction are given for the mechanical part).
- Read the documents.
- Visual inspection.
- Electrical test #1:
- Connect the hybrids to the PC card.
- Run the program SCOPE and then switch on the power with the red button (NO BIAS).
If any pathology shows up (typically one or more chips without any variation in
the pedestal), switch off the power and call an expert (!)
- Verify the temperature sensor ID (command Y) on the K hybrid.
- Electrical test #2:
- Run the program CALIB specifying the output file name as h?pxx_yy
- h = Hybrid (default)
- ? = Side (b: both hybrids, k: K-side, s: S-side)
- p = PCB version of the hybrid (default)
- xx = pair (or hybrid) ID number as in AMS
- yy = calibration progressive number (verify on the Hybrids pair data sheet
the correct number and write there the new number).
- Verify the output on the screen:
- - All the chips should have zero underflow.
- - The mean sigma should be below two for only hybrid and below four
for hybrid with a biased detector.
- - The mean gain should be between 10 and 25 (for sure NOT zero and NOT
negative).
- - The number of dead strip should be zero.
- - The number of bad strip should be below 5.
- Every time you use the hybrid connector, write it on the data sheet.
- Use PAW and the kumac SHOWCAL to verify the quality of the calibration data.
- When the test refer to a complete ladder, login on schp5.unige.ch with anonymous ftp
and put the .cal and .tab files in the directory pub/ams/yourname .
